General
Outlook
May 4, 2004
Cumin : Firmer in Turkey but other origins still at lower
levels. There is at least a overcarry of 7000 M/t entering
the new crop Turkish which is expected to be around 7000 M/t.
Maybe more as there are no exact figures. We do not expect
a strong price increase because of stocks overhere and demand
is steady. We advise buyers to buy what they need and not
more. New Crop available in July. Weather conditions favourable
in Turkey. A lot of rumours in the market in the last weeks
but we tell buyer`s to close their ears for it.
Anise Seeds : No significant changes in price levels this
seasons. It has become a `quiet` product. New crop expectations
are good but it is always hard to predict how price levels
will fluctuate during the start of new crop in July. Price
levels are often influenced by the Turkish spirit producer
`TEKEL` who is buying the anise seeds for extraction and as
an ingredient for the famous Turkish drink `Raki`.
Fennel Seeds : Expecting prices to stay on same level and
only will come down when new crop available in 2nd half of
August. Crop each year is low and only around 3000 up to 4000
M/t.
Laurel Leaves : Scarce and quality left in local market is
very poor. Most stocks in hands of exporters. New crop only
available in September for pressed material and hand selected
could be ready by end of October. We have some very limited
hand selected grades to offer. Please contact us for firm
quotes.
Oregano : New crop in July. Prices on steady levels. We do
expect new crop to be favourable as weather conditions has
been good. Prices will be mostly depending on what will be
harvested by the villagers as it is still for a large part
a wild growing product. Raw material prices are influenced
strongly by the buying activity of exporters during July /
August and September.
Sage : As good as sold out from Turkey. New crop at same time
as Oregano in July. As crop in Albania was at low yield this
season prices from Turkey had climed up to 2.300 up to 2.950
US$ sales reported per M/t. during last months.
Capers : All sizes still available. We think that prices have
reached bottom levels during this season and will not go down
further as then there will be just no interest by villagers
to pick the capers during June – July – August.
Soon starting collecting new crop after approx. 15th of June
but first new crop shipments only available by beginning of
August.
Sun Dried Tomatoes : New crop drying will start after 15th
of July untill beginning of September. Currently low ppm level
product ( 50 up to 800 ppm ) is scarce and hard to find good
grades. We should wait for new crop. New crop prices totally
depending on prices for raw material tomatoes and especially
weather conditions during the 50 days drying periode. Rain
is the big fear and means a disaster to any exporter who is
drying the tomatoes on the field outside.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any
more information or firm C + F quotes for above products.
