Market Report India

Monsoons in India have been delayed beyond time. In fact until last week there were hardly any rains. Towards the end of the week rain appeared in some parts of the country. Although the met deptt. of India claims that about 95% of the country has been covered by rains the reality situation is not as good. The country has received only about 40-45% of rains that it should have received by now. This is going to be a crucial week. If monsoons do not get going then there could be effect on some crops in the coming days.

At the moment cumin prices have remained stable with minor fluctuations of about USD 50-75/Mt. Arrivals are about 200-250 Tons per day and trades at about 400-500 Tons per day. It means that there is goods available. How-ever it remains to be seen as to how much the traders would sell and then the future of the market would be decided. Crops in other origins are out and with all origins quoting nearly at the same levels it, remains to be seen what the buyers prefer.

Fennel prices are also more or less stable. Arrivals at about 150-200 Tons and the same amount of trades. Not much activity here. Although good green fennel is less in supply, demand for that material is also very less.

Sesame seeds prices have been fluctuating in the range of about USD 50/Mt depending on the demand supply situation. Demand from the international market is very good and at the end of the day all the goods that arrive in the yard are sold. Some the sesame growing areas have received sufficient rains for cultivation.

Fenugreek and Mustard prices are more or less stable. If monsoons are prolonged further prices could see an upward trend. Also the currency that depreciated by almost 3-4% has appreciated again. This remains a major concern for the exporting community in India.
